Full-Stack Software Engineer

Salary: CHF 90'000 - 120'000 per year

Requirements:

• We require experience with Python and web application development, for example using Flask or similar frameworks.
• We require basic knowledge of JavaScript and modern web interfaces, for example React or similar libraries.
• We require familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
• We require the ability to write clear, maintainable code and learn new technologies.
• We require experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL.
• We require familiarity with search or indexing technologies, such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
• We require exposure to container technologies, such as Docker, and container platforms, for example OpenShift.
• We require experience contributing to or working with open-source software projects.
• We require spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
• We require that you are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• We require that, by the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software Engineering or a related field and that your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
• We require that you have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• We require a university degree; applicants without a university degree are not eligible.
• We require that you do not have a PhD, as applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Responsibilities:

• We develop and maintain web applications using Python on the backend and React on the frontend, implementing new features to support the archiving, publication, and sharing of research outputs.
• We contribute to the migration of existing content to a new digital platform, ensuring data quality and consistency.
• We write, test, and review code to ensure reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• We collaborate with software engineers and end users to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• We document technical solutions and contribute to user and developer documentation.
• We learn and apply best practices in software engineering, version control, and agile teamwork.

We are offering a 24-month hybrid contract with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum, working 40 hours per week, with a target start date of 01-November-2026 and a closing date at 23:59 CEST. The role is in Software Engineering and IT.
