Junior Full-Stack Software Engineer

Salary: CHF 63'000 - 84'000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for a motivated Software Engineer with a passion for delivering complex information systems end-to-end.
• We expect experience developing full-stack enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, and frontend frameworks such as React.
• We expect experience with build, test, and deployment toolchains.
• We expect experience working with SQL and relational databases, as well as Java database integration.
• We expect experience working in agile development teams.
• We expect experience with modern development workflows including Git, CI/CD, containerisation, and GitOps.
• We expect experience maintaining and implementing features in legacy applications.
• We require full-stack development skills with Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, React, and similar frameworks.
• We require understanding of modern software design and architecture principles and patterns, and their application in the Java and JavaScript ecosystems.
• We require knowledge of Git or an equivalent version control system.
• We value knowledge of CI/CD tools like GitLab or equivalent, containerised software solutions, GitOps workflows, Power BI or a similar reporting solution, PL/SQL, and cloud migrations of on-premise software.
• We require spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
• We require that you are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• We require that by the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and that your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
• We require that you have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Applicants without a university degree are not eligible.
• Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

We are CERNs Business Computing (BC) group in the Finance and Administrative Processes (FAP) department, with 80+ talented international colleagues delivering information systems for all of CERNs business functions. We work for clients across the organisation, including HR, Finance, Planning, Safety, Security, Purchasing, Logistics, and Accelerator Operations, on products ranging from custom-made solutions for a few users to large integrated systems with 15,000+ users. We offer a hybrid role in a self-organised agile team supporting software solutions used across CERN. The contract duration is 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months, and the position may require work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays when needed. We offer a monthly stipend, 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks annual closure, comprehensive health insurance, membership of the CERN Pension Fund, family and child allowances, a relocation package depending on individual circumstances, and on-the-job and formal training including language classes.
