System Administrator - Genève

Salary: CHF 90'000 - 120'000 per year

Requirements:

• Skilled and experienced Linux System Administrator
• Experience managing critical server hardware from procurement to installation, configuration and operation
• Ability to work on computing infrastructure supporting mission-critical control system services
• Ability to collaborate with engineers, equipment specialists and operations teams
• Ability to participate in hardware specification and procurement processes

Responsibilities:

• Manage Linux computers connected to the accelerator control system, including control room consoles, data centre servers, real-time embedded platforms and virtual machines
• Investigate, diagnose and resolve operational problems in collaboration with end-users
• Manage data centre infrastructure, including servers, racks and their relationships with networking, powering and cooling
• Manage desktop computers in control rooms and technical buildings
• Manage networked data-storage systems and ensure they are effectively backed up
• Plan and coordinate annual installation work and replacement of obsolete equipment with the system administration team
• Collaborate closely with engineers from the IT Department responsible for the general CERN IT infrastructure
• Participate in defining hardware specifications for server and desktop computers as part of procurement processes
